Robert Waley-Cohen

Here are some Robert’s horses I have treated along with their wins:

  • Long Run
  • Katarino
  • Liberthine
  • Irilut

An owner since 1973, Robert currently has five horses in training in England and France, plus a small number trained under permit. Amongst his best horses have been Katarino, winner of the Triumph Hurdle in 1999 and the Aintree Foxhunters’ in 2006 and 2007, while Irilut has won more than 20 times (including the Lady Dudley and the Lord Ashton of Hyde).

Upton Viva Stud
Founded by Robert Waley-Cohen and his eldest son Marcus in 2001. The strategy is to produce top class National Hunt horses that are also capable of winning on the flat.

The plan is to do as much pre training preparation as possible on the stud before sending the horses into training. We send them into training in France, either at 2 or 3 years old, as they have an excellent programme for 3 and 4 year olds particularly fillies. Only those that distinguish themselves in France will return to race in England at the end of their 4 year old careers with the expectations that these will in due course join the stud. Those fillies which are not sufficiently precocious to race so young are leased to race in UK.

Testimonial

“Becky has been visiting my horses for the past five years and continues to do so. We think the work she does helps maximise their physical and mental potential on and off the racecourse. Supporting their careers in the racing world with spectacular wins for the Waley-Cohen Team including Katarino winning his 2nd Year FoxHunters 2006 and follow up 2nd place 2007, Liberthine 5th place Grand National 2006, Irilut winning numerous point to points and of course the superb wins with Long Run including The King George VI 2011.”
