Shiatsu For Horses

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu works with the flow of energy in the body’s energy channels or ‘meridians’. The balance of this energy flow is considered to be essential for health and well-being.

Shiatsu literally means ‘finger pressure’ and is a sister therapy to acupuncture. With gentle pressure and stretches, the practitioner finds where the meridians are empty, blocked or overflowing, communicating through touch helps energy flow freely through the whole system.

Shiatsu for Horses:

Developed by Pamela Hannay in 1983, Equine Shiatsu is becoming a popular treatment that is intended to work alongside conventional medicines.

Shiatsu can help with a number of factors that may be affecting your horse’s performance such as:

  • Early recognition & treatment of problems before they escalate
  • Muscular and skeletal problems
  • Stimulating circulation and the nervous system
  • Reducing susceptibility to injury
  • Maximizing mental and physical potential
  • Supporting the immune system
  • Trauma
  • Behavioural problems
  • Stress, general lethargy, and depression
  • Relaxing and energizing the horse and promoting a feeling of well-being
